One GOD

The “Apostles Creed” written in the fourth or fifth century, espouses what I believe are the basic tenets of Christianity today:

Christ in clouds

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Many Evangelicals tend to deny the Apostles Creed because the word "catholic" is written in the original version of the sentence: “the holy catholic Church” the above version is used by the United Methodist Church. The word catholic, (note NOT capped) simply meant "universal" and did not refer to the Catholic Church. the entire sentence is thus saying: "there is only one universal church". or as the Apostle Paul said in Ephesians 4:4-6  "..there is one Body..”. All true Believers are part of One Body in Christ Jesus! and dare I say it, Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Evangelicals, etc.. are all part of the Body of Christ!
